WALKING WOUNDED:
Adelaide’s casualty ward, as has been the case all season, remains remarkably barren. Only Jarryd Lyons (back) is unavailable at this stage, the promising youngster set to miss 2-3 games to rest a sore left foot, which has seen him sporting a moon boot for the past week. Veteran defender Graham Johncock has to overcome a back complaint to secure his place in the side this Friday night, while wingman David Mackay is a strong chance of resuming, having recovered from a hamstring complaint, and will probably come in for the suspended Bernie Vince.
Small forward Ahmed Saad could be given a spell after he copped a heavy head knock in a sickening collision with Gold Coast teenager Josh Caddy last Saturday which saw him stretchered off, but Jarryn Geary is a chance of resuming from a fractured eye socket sustained against Sydney, after St Kilda’s medical staff ruled him out last weekend. Gun defender Sam Fisher (hamstring) and No. 1 ruckman Ben McEvoy (knee) are tipped to make their returns, but Jimmy Webster (shin) is still a week away and Rhys Stanley (hamstring) is out for another fortnight.

Adelaide’s impressive Round 10 win over Fremantle saw them enter last week’s bye in a very sound position. The Crows saw their 36-point second-term lead evaporate as the Dockers made an inspired charge. Adelaide lost the lead momentarily before responding with the last five goals. Amazingly, by just the second day of winter, the Crows had notched wins in five different states.
St Kilda’s 95-point trouncing of the hapless Gold Coast on Saturday saw the Saints accrue some healthy percentage and sneak into the eight. Given the deplorable state of the opposition, it remains to be seen how much St Kilda can take out of that performance, as their on-off, win-loss sequence continues.
WHO’S HOT:
Rory Sloane – Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson singled out Sloane’s ‘inspirational’ and ‘incredible’ performance, which people will ‘talk about for a long time’ as the catalyst for Saturday’s win over Fremantle. Sloane, who recently re-signed with the Crows, had match-highs of 33 touches and seven tackles to go with nine clearances and three goals. His third major was a beauty and came at a critical time with Adelaide trailing by a point, sparking the Crows’ resurgence.
Nick Riewoldt – the Saints skipper led from the front in his Gold Coast homecoming, slamming seven goals, his best return in two years. Riewoldt’s third major, a soccered effort in the 13th minute of the second term, brought up his landmark 500th career AFL goal. Riewolt, who is third in the Coleman Medal race behind Lance Franklin and younger cousin Jack Riewoldt, became the fifth Saint to achieve the 500-goal milestone, after Tony Lockett, Billy Mohr, Stewart Loewe and team-mate Stephen Milne.
